Offering golfers a double play, the sandy and Kentucky bluegrass fairways of Canthooke Valley course provides golfers with the more traditional layout and the marshy wetlands of Cutters Ridge is played on clay-like soil. Although distinctly different, don't let their apperance fool you.
Canthooke Valley was the first course built at Manistee National and is beloved by everyone; from high handicappers to scratch golfers. It tests the best yet remains playable for golfers of all abilities. You'll face generous fairways and only a few forced carries, the moderate-sized, bentgrass greens are well-bunkered, and some ponds, marshes and trees threaten your path to the greens. Every hole has a lot of individual character and personality so that your round will offer new excitement whenever you turn a corner.
You'll really get to know the look and feel of Cutters' Ridge when you come to the third hole on this course, a slight dogleg left par four. You'll find a mix of different kinds of pines along the fairway here because once upon a time this area was a Christmas tree farm. But the most notable landmark here is the large cherry tree standing at the crook of the dogleg. A little creek also runs through your landing area. At the turn, you'll be playing across a creek to the elevated green protected by a sand bunker on the front right and a grass bunker front left.
